(English) Speech Accent Archive: accent.gmu.edu
The speech accent archive uniformly presents a large set of speech samples from a variety of language backgrounds. Native and non-native speakers of English read the same paragraph and are carefully transcribed. The archive is used by people who wish to compare and analyze the accents of different English speakers. I have contributed over 100 samples from native speakers of Slavic and Finnic languages. I continue to contribute to the archive in my travels and in my everyday life.

Please call Stella. Ask her to bring these things with her from the store: Six spoons of fresh snow peas, five thick slabs of blue cheese, and maybe a snack for her brother Bob. Parallel to the idea of Dr. /stivn/ Weinberger’s Speech Accent Archive, the elicited Russian speech entails all of the phonemes in the standard Russian inventory from non-native Russian speakers based on the complexity of onset and coda clusters.

“Пожалуйста, позвоните Лизе. Попросите ее принести эти вещи из магазина: шесть ложек свежего снежного горошка, один цветок синяя. пять толстых ломтей голубого сыра и, возможно, закуску для ее брата Вовы. Accent perception in unknown voices, reliability of previous experience and comparative phrase. What is the perceived accent of Abraham Lincoln?
How “alien” are varieties of language based on inventory sample compared to native inventory of the listener? Larger inventories have higher marked phonemes that do not occur in varieties of language with smaller inventories. When a language is created do we take in to account the size of the inventory, or simply take the extra marked articulations in larger inventories and mash them together.
How are temporally marked items are still used as prepositions.

Island Paintball, GWYNNS ISLAND, VA
In 2010, my peers and I cleared out a sq/hectare wooded lot for tactical sports: paintball, airsoft. We dug trenches, built defensive walls between trees and shanty styled structures, all with eco-friendly materials. None of the actions in the wooded lot intently impacted nor destroyed the environment in any way. Years since, we have witnessed usage of this lot by the local communities. Access to the lot may be from wooded trails linked to Island route 664, that is from Gatten Road, or through Keeble Cemetery. The project has not been intended for profit, strictly as beneficial for the youth community– the knowledge of this project has only been made available through (now, this portfolio) word of mouth, and to those who have perhaps stumbled across the territory. This project satisfies all the requirements for the BSA Eagle Scout Project.
We have considered building further structures on Hole In The Wall, a miniature archipelago off the South-East extension of Gwynn’s Island that requires extra marine transportation unless at the lowest tide. However, we found that the natural landscape has proven to be advantageous for tactical naval and woodland play and would not benefit from such an investment.
